Karnataka Prioritises Kalyan Region Development, Says Minister Ajay Singh
Minister Ajay Singh outlines budget allocations for education, infrastructure, health and irrigation in the Kalyan Karnataka region.
The Karnataka government has placed the comprehensive development of the Kalyan Karnataka region at the top of its agenda, Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology Ajay Singh said on Wednesday. Speaking after hoisting the national flag in Raichur to mark Kalyan Karnataka Utsav Day, Dr. Singh, who is also the district in-charge Minister for Raichur, pointed to substantial budgetary provisions across key sectors.
In education, the Akshara Avishkara scheme has been allotted ₹2,202.81 crore to upgrade school infrastructure, and 34 new residential schools are to be set up. For infrastructure, ₹2,170.46 crore has been allocated, with a further ₹1,000 crore earmarked for rural road construction under the 'Kalyan Path' programme. Praja Soudha buildings will also come up in newly formed taluks.
On healthcare, Dr. Singh said services are being expanded through the sanction of 32 fully equipped ambulances and the upgrading of local hospitals. Strengthening technical and medical education institutions remains a priority, he added.
For irrigation and water conservation, ₹425 crore has been set aside for minor irrigation projects and lake rejuvenation, along with schemes aimed at recharging underground water tables.
To tackle regional disparities in a systematic manner, the Minister announced the creation of a Planning, Policy and Data Analytics Wing. This body will design long-term projects and schemes based on the comprehensive Regional Imbalance Report for the period 2026 to 2031.
Dr. Singh reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that every family in the Kalyan Karnataka region benefits directly from these development programmes.
