Karnataka to Review All 32 Public Universities from September 17

Karnataka will conduct review meetings at all 32 of its public universities starting September 17, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi said on Thursday. The exercise is intended to assess academic activities, financial standing, quality of education and other aspects of the institutions.

The visits will begin with the public universities in Mangaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Davangere, and are scheduled to be completed across all universities by September 30.

Questionnaires have already been sent to the universities, and officials have been asked to keep their answers ready, the Minister said.

Rayaraddi said the problems faced by universities differ from one institution to another, making it necessary to understand the situation at each. The decision to visit every university personally was taken for this reason, he added.

The financial position of the State's universities has been found to be weak, and discussions will therefore focus mainly on their finances and the grants they need. The government has also permitted the filling of about 1,000 vacant posts in the universities. The review will gather information on how many posts each university requires, how many remain vacant, and related issues.
