Karnataka: 28 Residents Stranded or Missing in Nepal, Tibet After Flash Floods

The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has reported that 28 residents of Karnataka are stranded or missing in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) following severe flash floods in the region. The latest count, compiled as of 10 a.m. on August 29, marks an increase from earlier figures.

Of the 28 individuals, 23 are from Bengaluru Urban district, two from Mysuru, and one each from Dharwad, Udupi, and Vijayanagara districts. Most are believed to be in Timure in Nepal's Rasuwa district, while a few are in Darchen in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Four of the 28 have been confirmed safe and are currently transiting to Nepal. Search and tracing operations are ongoing to locate the remaining 24 individuals. The flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have caused significant loss of life and extensive damage to critical infrastructure, disrupting road connectivity and movement across several areas.

The Karnataka government said it is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with officials at the Ministry of External Affairs and Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi to coordinate rescue efforts. The SEOC is operating round-the-clock and can be reached at 1070 or 080-22253707.

Separately, Infosys Public Services CEO Lax Gopisetty, who was in Nepal on a personal visit, has been unreachable since the floods. The company said its primary concern is his safety and well-being, and it is coordinating with relevant authorities to re-establish contact. Infosys added that it remains in close communication with his family and is providing all necessary support.
