Karnataka suspends IAS officer arrested in KPSC veterinary recruitment case
Karnataka suspends IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, arrested in KPSC veterinary recruitment irregularities case; CID continues probe.
The Karnataka government has placed IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar under suspension. Gangwar was arrested earlier in connection with alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) for recruitment to veterinary officer posts. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is currently investigating the case.
Gangwar served as Controller of Examination at the KPSC from February 2024 to March 2026, after which he was appointed Director of MSME. He is the first accused to be arrested in the matter and is presently in CID custody.
In a related development, the CID is expected to summon suspended KPSC Chairman Shivashakarappa S. Sahukar for a second round of questioning. Sahukar has moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail, citing apprehension of arrest.
As part of the ongoing probe, CID officials conducted a mahazar at the Bengaluru residence of alleged middleman Basavaraj Kannale in Sanjay Nagar. Documents and material believed to be relevant to the case were examined. Earlier, a search at Kannale's hometown residence had yielded documents allegedly linked to the scam.
Investigators are also tracing financial transactions and the money trail. A mahazar was previously conducted at a cooperative society in Bhalki, where records of monetary dealings through multiple bank accounts allegedly linked to the accused were examined. The CID is now scrutinising these financial records to establish the flow of money and connections between the accused and the alleged irregularities.
