Kartik Aaryan Wins National Award for Best Actor for Chandu Champion

Actor Kartik Aaryan has received the National Award for Best Actor for his role in Chandu Champion, with the honour presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, near the Statue of Unity. The event was attended by a gathering of veteran actors and filmmakers.

Speaking to the media afterwards, Aaryan said he was overwhelmed by the recognition. He thanked those present for the honour and expressed appreciation for the President's address, describing himself as speechless.

In a social media post, the actor reflected on his journey from Gwalior, calling the moment the realisation of a small-town dream and one shared by every actor in the country. He said he remained numb with excitement and nervousness, and expressed gratitude to director Kabir Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala for entrusting him with the role of Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medallist. He described the process of making the film as extremely painful but the outcome as sweet, adding that he felt both humbled and emotional.

Aaryan also thanked his parents for their blessings, love and support, along with his friends and team, crediting them as constants through a long and difficult journey. He dedicated the honour to every Paralympian in the country.

Chandu Champion, released in 2024, is based on the life of Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medallist in freestyle swimming. Aaryan underwent a significant physical transformation and intensive training to portray the athlete, and his performance drew wide appreciation from audiences and critics.
