Coastal Karnataka groups plan Karwar-Ankola-Gokarna rally for river, forest protection
Environmental groups will hold a Karwar-Ankola-Gokarna Chalo on Thursday to demand protection of rivers, forests and the coastal ecosystem in Uttar Kannada.
Environmental protection groups and community organisations in Uttar Kannada district will hold a rally on Thursday, named Karwar-Ankola-Gokarna Chalo, to press for the conservation of the region's rivers and forests.
The initiative is being organised on the directions of Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swami of Sonda Swarnavalli Math, according to a release from the organisers. The primary aim is to generate public awareness against unscientific projects that could harm the rivers, forests and the broader ecosystem of the coastal Gangavali-Karavali belt.
Organisers have stressed that the protection of rivers and natural resources is tied directly to the well-being of future generations. They described the effort not as a campaign limited to any particular community, but as a matter of survival for all.
As part of the programme, activists will begin their journey from Sirsi and proceed to Gokarna, where they will submit a petition to the local gram panchayat. The jatha will then move to Karwar to hand over a representation at the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The procession is scheduled to conclude in the evening after submitting a petition to the Ankola Taluk Panchayat.
