Class 3 boy dies after falling from moving school van in MP's Katni

A 10-year-old student died in a hospital after he fell from a moving school van when its door opened unexpectedly in Madhya Pradesh's Katni district on Wednesday, police said.

The incident took place under the Vijayraghavgarh police station limits while the Class 3 student was on his way home from a private school.

Station House Officer Abhishek Choubey identified the child as Jeet Yadav. "The door of the van suddenly opened, causing Jeet to lose control and fall from the moving vehicle onto the road. The child was seriously injured and began bleeding profusely," the official said.

Bystanders rushed the boy to the nearest government hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, the police officer added.

Following the incident, local residents and parents have alleged that private educational institutions in the area are disregarding Supreme Court guidelines on school transport safety. These norms mandate a yellow colour scheme for school vehicles, clear "School Bus" lettering on the front and rear, valid fitness certificates, speed governors, and panic buttons.

Police said they are investigating possible negligence by the driver, the vehicle's fitness status, and the school management's role in the tragedy.
