Kaushal Kishore's cryptic post on 'values' sparks political debate

Former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kaushal Kishore on Tuesday made a cryptic social media post, stating that when an organisation or movement deviates from its core values, it eventually regresses to its starting point, and the faith of its ideological followers is shattered.

"When any organisation or movement deviates from its values, it ends up back where it started, and the faith of those associated with its ideology is also shattered. Therefore, one should not deviate from its values," Mr. Kishore wrote on X.

The statement came a day after he posted about a conversation with a friend who remarked that "the ball has gone as high as it could go and it is coming down," adding that the speed of its descent would increase and "no one can reduce the speed of the ball falling."

The remarks drew an immediate response from the Congress. Senior party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu interpreted the "ball coming down" comment as a reference to the BJP's anticipated defeat in the upcoming State Assembly elections.

"Kaushal Kishore ji did not take anyone's name, but the hint is so clear. The ball that was continuously thrown upward over the past few years with slogans of development, Vishwaguru, Amrit Kaal and a strong government has now started coming down," Mr. Lallu told The Hindu in Lucknow.

He added that amid inflation, unemployment, concerns of farmers and youth, economic challenges, and growing questions from the public, the BJP leader's remarks could not be a mere coincidence. "The truth is, it is not just the ball that is coming down, but the entire game is about to change, and the people of the country have made up their minds," Mr. Lallu said.
