Kerala's Kaziah Liz Mejo Wins Miss Universe India 2026 Crown

Kaziah Liz Mejo, a 19-year-old from Mavelikkara in Kerala's Alappuzha district, has been crowned Miss Universe India 2026. The grand finale was held in Jaipur on August 23, where she competed against 50 other contestants from across the country.

A law student and model, Mejo previously represented India at Miss Teen International 2025, finishing as first runner-up. She then won the Miss Universe Kerala title before securing the national crown.

Speaking after her victory, Mejo described the win as "an opportunity of a lifetime," noting that she was bringing the crown to Kerala after 64 years. She attributed her success to divine grace and said representing India internationally is a matter of pride.

Mejo said she aims to showcase India's diversity, culture, and the strength of its younger generation. She also expressed interest in entering the film industry alongside modelling, hoping to carry India's name internationally in that field as well.

Addressing young women aspiring to enter modelling, Mejo advised them to stay determined despite the struggles. "Take your roots with you wherever you go," she said, urging them to carry pride in the tricolour in everything they do.

On Gen-Z activism, including recent protests in Delhi and Jharkhand, Mejo said she is proud of her generation. "From being criticised as outspoken to that being one of our biggest strengths... that is the most powerful thing that any human in the world can do," she remarked.
