KCR to Skip Assembly Spotlight, Plans Mass Movement Against Congress Over Irrigation
KCR plans a large public movement after the Assembly session, accusing the Congress government of neglecting irrigation and farmers.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is shifting his political battle from the Assembly floor to the public domain. At a meeting of the BRS Legislature Party at his Erravelli farmhouse in Gajwel on Sunday, he outlined a two-pronged strategy: aggressive questioning in the House and a massive public mobilisation after the session.
Party sources said Mr. Rao termed the Congress government's nearly 1,000-day tenure a 'disaster' and an 'utter flop'. He accused the administration of deliberately withholding irrigation water from farmers and neglecting the Kaleshwaram project for political reasons. He instructed legislators to raise the state's share of Krishna and Godavari river waters and other irrigation matters during the Assembly session beginning Monday.
The former Chief Minister also discussed the proposed delimitation of Assembly constituencies, asking party legislators to prepare for likely changes.
Speaking to media after the meeting, party Deputy Floor Leader T. Harish Rao said the BRS would raise issues concerning farmers, students, employees, and other sections. He confirmed that KCR would personally lead a public movement with lakhs of people after the session, drawing a parallel with leaders like NTR, Jayalalithaa, and Chandrababu Naidu who took their fights to the people and returned to power.
Other issues flagged for the Assembly include agricultural lands on the 22A prohibited list, power cuts affecting farmers, the alleged failure of the farm loan waiver scheme, polytechnic colleges under GO 97, problems in SCCL, implementation of the Pay Revision Commission, Dearness Allowance payment, the Employees Health Scheme, and pending fee reimbursement.
