Kenya Aviation Workers Call Off Strike, Flights to Resume

Kenya's aviation workers have officially called off their strike, which had caused significant flight disruptions at the country's main international airport and other airfields. The announcement was made jointly by Transport Minister Davis Chirchir and Moss Ndiema, head of the aviation workers' union, on Tuesday.

The strike, primarily involving air traffic controllers, began on Sunday and continued through Monday, leading to delays and cancellations of flights to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. The ripple effects were felt across regional airports in East Africa and beyond, as schedules were thrown off track.

Speaking at a press conference, Ndiema urged members to resume work and help restore normal operations. "We are simply calling off our strike action and pleading with our members to begin the process of normalising operations, restoring services," he said. He also asked those currently on duty to start clearing the backlog of flights.

The move is expected to bring relief to travellers and airlines that had been grappling with the disruptions over the past two days.
