Kerala announces cash incentives for Asian Games medallists ahead of 2026 event

Kerala announces Rs 50 lakh for gold, Rs 30 lakh for silver, Rs 20 lakh for bronze at Asian Games 2026, plus advance support.

The Kerala government has announced a comprehensive cash incentive package for state athletes participating in the upcoming 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

Sports Minister O J Janeesh, speaking at an event in Thiruvananthapuram, revealed that gold medallists from Kerala will receive Rs 50 lakh, while silver and bronze winners will be awarded Rs 30 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively.

In a move aimed at easing financial pressure on competitors, every athlete from the state participating in the Games will receive Rs 1 lakh in advance. The minister noted that past incentives for major sporting events were often announced with delays, and this proactive approach is intended to provide timely support and motivation.

Coaches of successful athletes will also be rewarded, with cash incentives of Rs 5 lakh for guiding a gold medallist, Rs 3 lakh for silver, and Rs 2 lakh for bronze. The announcement underscores the state's commitment to recognising sporting excellence and supporting its representatives on the international stage.
