Kerala Orders Police Crackdown on Agencies Defrauding Jobseekers
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered stringent police action against agencies accused of cheating people with false promises of jobs and education.
The Kerala government has ordered a crackdown on agencies and individuals accused of defrauding people with promises of employment and educational opportunities in India and abroad.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala directed the State Police Chief to take stringent action against such outfits, speaking to mediapersons in the state capital on Friday.
The government, he said, has been receiving a rising volume of complaints from people who paid large sums to agencies after being assured of jobs, only to be cheated later.
The problem is not limited to overseas employment. Complaints have also been lodged against groups that promise college admissions and chances to study abroad, including MBBS courses, the Minister said.
He added that some agencies and individuals suspected of involvement in these activities are already under police surveillance, and that strong legal action will be taken against those found part of such rackets.
The directive comes a day after police arrested the chief executive officer of an immigration firm in Kochi in connection with an alleged job fraud.
