Kerala Regulator Revises New Electricity Connection Rates
Kerala's electricity regulator has revised connection charges for LT consumers, with new rates taking effect from October 12.
Kerala's State Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued orders revising the amounts consumers pay to obtain new electricity connections, with the revised rates set to take effect from October 12.
For LT single phase domestic connections of up to 2 kilowatt (kW), the new charge is ₹2,000 per connection. Under LT categories other than domestic, the fee is ₹2,500 for single phase connections up to 1 kW, and ₹3,000 for single phase service above 1 kW and up to 2 kW.
Several other slabs have also been reworked. An LT single phase connection above 2 kW and up to 5 kW will cost ₹5,000, while an LT three phase connection above 5 kW and up to 7 kW is priced at ₹8,000. For LT three phase service above 7 kW and up to 10 kW, the rate is ₹10,000.

Under the Electricity Act, a distribution licensee is permitted to recover reasonable expenditure incurred in providing an applicant with the electric lines or electrical plant needed to supply power. The Kerala State Electricity Board had filed a petition in July seeking the revision on a kVA/kW basis.
