Kerala Excise forms SIT to probe MDMA seizure cases

Kerala Excise forms 10-member SIT to probe two cases linked to 281g suspected MDMA seizure; custody of four accused sought next week.

The Kerala Excise department has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to look into two cases connected to the seizure of 281 grams of suspected MDMA last week. The team, comprising 10 members, will be led by Ernakulam Assistant Excise Commissioner (Enforcement) Joby A.T.

According to Excise sources, investigators plan to seek the custody of four youths arrested in connection with the two related cases during the coming week. The accused have been in judicial remand since their arrests in the third week of August.

The four individuals are Varun Dev, 35, of Nedumbram, Thiruvalla; Vipin S. Kumar, 30, of Muthoor, Thiruvalla; Sidhique Kanjirapparambil, 27, of North Paravur; and Finala Maria D'Rozario, 18, of Pachalam.

As part of the probe, officials are currently scrutinising phone call records and financial transactions involving the accused, an Excise official said. The SIT's formation marks a focused effort to trace the broader network behind the drug haul and establish the chain of events leading to the seizure.
