Kerala's NH-66 stretch to become India's first e-truck corridor
Kerala's 622-km NH-66 stretch will be India's first e-truck corridor, funded within ₹2,000 crore from the Centre's PM E-DRIVE scheme.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced that the 622-kilometre stretch of National Highway 66, running from Thiruvananthapuram in the south to Kasaragod in the north, is being developed as the country's first dedicated e-truck corridor.
The initiative will be implemented within the financial outlay of ₹2,000 crore already sanctioned by the central government under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme. This allocation ensures that the project's funding requirements remain within the approved budget.
The development marks a significant step in promoting electric freight transport along one of Kerala's busiest arterial routes. By establishing charging and supporting infrastructure along the entire corridor, the project aims to facilitate the adoption of electric trucks for long-haul cargo movement across the state.
This corridor is expected to serve as a model for sustainable freight transportation, potentially influencing similar initiatives in other parts of the country.
