Kerala Police Seize 12.8 Kg MDMA Worth Rs 10 Crore From Car in Coimbatore

In what is being called the largest synthetic drug seizure by Kerala Police, authorities have recovered 12.8 kilograms of MDMA from a vehicle in Coimbatore. The contraband is estimated to have a retail value exceeding Rs 10 crore.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as Jabir Ali and Shaim Akbar, both from Malappuram, and Mohammed Salih from Wayanad. The arrests were made by a special team operating under the Malappuram District Police Chief, which included the Manjeri Inspector and the district's DANSAF squad.

The drugs were found concealed inside the door panels of an Innova car. According to police, the MDMA had been divided into smaller packets, each weighing between 100 grams and 500 grams, prepared for distribution at various locations across Kerala, from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod.

The breakthrough in this case came from a much smaller operation several weeks prior. Police had raided an apartment in Manjeri town and arrested six people with around 100 grams of MDMA. Interrogation of those suspects provided crucial leads that pointed to a much larger interstate supply chain.

Further investigation revealed a network operating through Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, where large quantities of drugs were reportedly stored at secret locations before being transported for sale in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The network is said to have used luxury vehicles fitted with concealed compartments for transportation.

Investigators identified Coimbatore, Palani, and Kodaikanal as key transit points for the network. The three men were eventually intercepted near Coimbatore, leading to the discovery of the drugs. Police are now working to trace the source of the consignment and identify other individuals involved in the supply chain.
