Kerala expands Special Enrichment programme to 445 schools

Kerala has expanded its Special Enrichment programme to 445 schools in the 2026-27 academic year, up from 50 schools in the previous year, as part of the United Democratic Front government's 100-day action programme. An administrative sanction of ₹5 crore has been granted for implementation.

General Education Minister N. Samsudheen, speaking at the State-level inauguration held at Government Higher Secondary School in Meppadi, Wayanad, on Monday, said quality education reforms attuned to changing times are essential to prepare students to compete globally.

The Minister said the initiative is designed to support students who face educational setbacks caused by geographical difficulties and mental stress. It seeks to ensure quality education for all and to promote equity and equal opportunities, with a focus on the academic empowerment and holistic development of students in government schools in Adivasi, coastal and plantation areas.

The State-level launch in Meppadi gave particular attention to children from the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide-affected areas, Mr. Samsudheen said.

The programme comprises expert-led classes, camps, skill development workshops, educational trips, improvement of physical facilities and awareness programmes for parents.

As part of the initiative, the government has set up Digital Squares in 6,000 schools across the State to strengthen digital education among lower primary and upper primary students. The Minister added that an ARISE programme would be introduced to teach artificial intelligence and robotics in high schools.
