Kerala University Says No Campus Ban on Student Politics
Kerala University has clarified it has no plans to curb student politics, and its Senate approved honorary doctorates for four eminent figures.
Kerala University has said it has no intention of curtailing political activity on its campuses, and that no ban currently exists on the functioning of student organisations.
The clarification came from the university's leadership during a Senate meeting on Monday, in response to a question posed by University Union chairperson Shiva S.
At the same meeting, the Senate gave unanimous approval to a Syndicate recommendation to award honorary doctorates to four personalities: former ISRO chairperson K. Radhakrishnan, veteran actor Madhu, filmmaker and lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi, and former Indian hockey captain P.R. Sreejesh.
Vice Chancellor (in-charge) Mohanan Kunnummal told the Senate that the convocation ceremony is scheduled for October 25.
Elections held during the session saw Left representatives secure two positions. S. Sreejith, a Students Federation of India candidate, was chosen as the student representative to the Syndicate, while Priya Priyadarshan, representing the All Kerala Private College Teachers' Association, was elected as the university's representative to the General Council of the Kerala Agricultural University.
