The East Division police have ordered an inquiry into two policemen who were allegedly filmed accepting money from a shopkeeper in a narrow lane in K.G. Halli on Monday.
The matter came to light after a passerby recorded the two personnel, who were in uniform and on a motorcycle, allegedly taking cash from a person believed to be a shopkeeper. The person filming confronted the policemen over the transaction and asked them to explain it.
Taken aback, the two reportedly left the spot without answering. The video was later posted on social media and tagged senior police officials, drawing the department's attention to the episode.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Division, has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police for K.G. Halli to conduct a detailed inquiry into the allegations. Both policemen have been summoned for questioning as part of the probe.
A senior police officer said the claims would be verified and that disciplinary action would follow if the inquiry finds any wrongdoing.
The episode has renewed questions about the conduct of police personnel while on duty, especially allegations of accepting money from members of the public.
