Kharge Accuses M.P. BJP Government of Evading Accountability for Multiple Deaths
Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday accused the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of evading responsibility for deaths from spurious liquor, contaminated water and toxic cough syrup.
Congress president and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday accused the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of repeatedly evading accountability for deaths linked to spurious liquor, contaminated water and toxic cough syrup, saying no one is held responsible.
In a post on X, Mr. Kharge said the state government had "crossed the peak of corruption" and that official apathy and negligence had rendered human lives valueless.
He pointed to the deaths of 31 people in Sagar district after consuming poisonous liquor, adding that 11 others were still battling for their lives. "For some, a son is gone; for some, a father; for some, a husband. But for the BJP government, this too is just another 'accident'," he said.
Mr. Kharge cited other incidents to argue that administrative negligence was widespread. He referred to the deaths of more than 27 children in Balaghat, 36 people allegedly due to contaminated water in Indore, 25 children after consuming toxic cough syrup, and 53 women in childbirth in Sidhi in a single year.
"Whether the poison is in liquor, water or medicine, every time the people of Madhya Pradesh are paying the price with their lives," he said.
He further alleged that when citizens demand justice, the state government responds with water cannons and tear gas, while "no one takes responsibility, and no one gets punished".
