VACB Arrests Kochi Corporation Overseer, Accomplice in ₹25,000 Bribery Case
A Kochi Corporation overseer and a complainant were arrested by the VACB in a bribery case involving a commercial building in Kaloor.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) arrested an overseer attached to the Kochi Corporation on Thursday, alleging that she was accepting a bribe of ₹25,000 in connection with a complaint against a commercial building.
The accused has been identified as Seena P.R., 45. She was taken into custody from near the Kaloor bus stand at around 5.10 p.m.
According to the VACB, the bribe was meant to settle a complaint concerning a commercial building at Kathrikadavu in Kaloor and to exempt the property from further action.
Investigators later arrested Shanavas P.A., 44, who is alleged to have conspired with the overseer and demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh to settle his own complaint against the building.
The sequence of events, as per the VACB, began when the building's owner approached Ms. Seena after Mr. Shanavas filed a complaint alleging unauthorised renovations to the property. Ms. Seena is said to have contacted a relative of the building owner over the phone and suggested that Mr. Shanavas be "settled".
Mr. Shanavas allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh as a bribe, along with an additional payment of ₹25,000 for the overseer. The arrest was made while the latter amount was being accepted, the VACB said.
