Kochi Gets Wellness Hub for Gig Workers Under 100-Day Programme
A wellness hub for gig workers was inaugurated in Kochi on September 23, 2026, offering rest facilities, Wi-Fi, toilets and charging points across two daily shifts.
A wellness hub designed to give gig workers a place to rest was inaugurated in Kochi on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, as part of the State government's 100-day action programme.
Mayor V.K. Minimol opened the facility and extended the civic body's full assistance to the centre, which has been set up by the Labour department.
The hub is intended to provide safe resting space and basic welfare amenities to gig workers employed in online food delivery, e-commerce and ride-hailing services.
Among the arrangements at the centre are seating, toilets, Wi-Fi connectivity and charging points. The Labour department has posted two staff members for each of two shifts to run the facility.
The rest centre will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Kochi Corporation works standing committee chairperson T.K. Asharaf presided over the inauguration. Ernakulam Regional Joint Labour Commissioner Suresh Kumar, District Labour Officer (General) Minoy James and District Labour Officer (Enforcement) Jahfar Sadiq T.A. were present.
