Kochi Police Trace 2 kg MDMA Haul to Delhi, Suspect in Custody
Kochi police seized 1.98 kg of suspected MDMA in Mattancherry. The accused, Noufal, allegedly sourced the drugs from Delhi and transported them by train.
The Kochi City police have established that a large consignment of synthetic drugs seized in Mattancherry on Friday was sourced from Delhi. The anti-narcotic wing believes the accused, a 32-year-old local resident named Noufal, procured the drugs from the national capital region.
According to preliminary investigations, the contraband was brought to Kochi by train. Investigators are now working to identify other individuals who may be connected to the trafficking network. A senior police officer confirmed that the probe is ongoing.
Travel records of the accused over the past four months have been collected, revealing at least three visits to the Delhi region during this period. Noufal is a known offender with multiple pending drug-related cases against him at various police stations.
The seizure, weighing 1.980 kg, was made by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force from a car used by the suspect. The drugs were cleverly concealed inside a tower fan and an air cooler. This operation marks the largest synthetic drug seizure within Kochi city limits since the launch of Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt in June.
The police are expected to recommend preventive detention for Noufal under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) given the scale of the latest recovery. The arrest follows a recent incident where another Mattancherry native, Safeer Thazhakath, was held by the Palarivattom police with a small quantity of suspected MDMA.
