Kochi Police Book Six Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals Over Invalid Documents
Palarivattom police have booked six suspected Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying in Kochi without valid travel documents.
Six people suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals have been booked by the Palarivattom police for allegedly residing in Kochi without valid travel documents.
The accused have been identified as Ibrahim Howlader, 29, Sakeer Khan, 50, Mohammed Arif Howlader, 29, Mohammed Unus Khan, 41, Joshana Begum, 30, and Hadiullah Khan, 31. The first information report states that all six are believed to hail from Morrelganj in Bangladesh's Bagerhat district.
According to police sources, the group was apprehended from a rented house at Vennala in the early hours of Wednesday. Two children — aged nine and two-and-a-half years — who belong to a couple among the accused were also present at the premises.
Investigators suspect that the six had been living in Kochi for about a year and taking up casual work. They have been booked for illegal entry under the Immigration and Foreigners Act.
The case comes close on the heels of a similar crackdown in the city. The Kochi City police had arrested 16 suspected Bangladeshi nationals in two separate incidents in June.
