Kosovo opposition MP hurls eggs at acting PM during parliament session
An opposition lawmaker threw eggs at Kosovo's acting PM Albin Kurti during a parliamentary session in Pristina on Saturday.
A parliamentary session in Kosovo descended into chaos on Saturday when an opposition lawmaker threw eggs at acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The incident took place in Pristina as the assembly gathered to constitute the new parliament following the June 7 snap election.
Video footage from the session shows the opposition MP hurling eggs at Kurti before a scuffle broke out, with shouts of "Shame on you" heard in Albanian. Kurti subsequently left the chamber, and other lawmakers began exiting the session shortly afterward.
The disruption came after Kurti had asked the Assembly speaker for additional time to negotiate a political agreement with opposition parties — a request that was approved by the chair.
Saturday's session was convened by Vetevendosje, the party that won the election, despite objections from opposition parties and some constitutional law experts. Critics argued that the gathering was unconstitutional, noting that the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court for constituting parliament had already expired on Friday.
