Kremlin Stays Silent on Reported Kushner, Witkoff Moscow Trip
Kremlin refuses to confirm reported Moscow visit by US envoys Kushner and Witkoff, citing need to inform media later.
The Kremlin has declined to confirm reports that US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are planning a visit to Moscow. Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that he would not announce anything prematurely, adding that the media would be informed once such contacts actually take place.
When asked whether agreements would be reached with Ukraine to guarantee the envoys' safety during their travel and stay, Peskov suggested that the American side would likely press Kyiv to halt what he termed "terrorist activities."
The remarks come amid reports that the envoys are expected in Kyiv in the coming days as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, now in its fifth year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that the US representatives are due in the capital soon.
Meanwhile, Russian overnight strikes killed at least three people in Ukraine, according to local officials. The aerial campaign has intensified, with attacks that previously occurred mainly after dark now also taking place during daylight hours. The front lines in eastern and southern Ukraine remain largely static.
