Kremlin Open to Putin-Trump Call After US Envoy Visits Kyiv, Moscow
Kremlin says it hasn't received results from US envoys' Kyiv talks but doesn't rule out a Putin-Trump call or renewed trilateral negotiations.
The Kremlin has indicated that a telephone conversation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could follow the recent visits of American negotiators to Kyiv and Moscow. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that Moscow has not yet received information about the outcomes of the US envoys' discussions in the Ukrainian capital.
"We do not rule out that a telephone conversation between the presidents may take place following the American negotiators' trip," Peskov told reporters. He declined to specify a timeline, adding that the media would be informed "in due course about when and if this telephone conversation takes place."
Peskov also addressed the possibility of reviving the trilateral negotiation format, which had been mentioned in statements from Kyiv. "We also do not rule out the renewal of this tripartite format, but it is still premature to speak about the place and the exact time," he said.
When asked whether the weekend talks had brought peace closer, Peskov acknowledged the diplomatic efforts positively. "Certainly, any attempts, more or less effective, is one small step towards peace," he said, adding that Moscow highly appreciates the peace-making efforts of the American negotiators. He reiterated that President Putin personally values President Trump's commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution.
