Police in Krishna district have arrested five men accused of forging land registration documents and selling vacant plots without the knowledge of their owners.
The Penamaluru police said the gang targeted properties belonging to senior citizens, bedridden patients and non-resident Indians, disposing of valuable land using fabricated paperwork. Gannavaram Deputy Superintendent of Police Kosuri Dharmendra identified the arrested as M. Adireddy, M. Venkata Ramana Phani Kumar, U. Sambasiva Udaya Bhaskar, R. Shiva Anjaneyulu alias RMP Shiva and K. Amaleswara Rao, all natives of NTR and Krishna districts.
The arrests followed a complaint from a victim. A team led by Penamaluru Circle Inspector N. Venkata Narayana, along with Sub-Inspectors Sandeep and Sudhakar, took the accused into custody and seized duplicate documents linked to a parcel of land at Kanuru village.
According to the DSP, the accused fabricated death certificates for a landowner and his wife and registered the property in the name of Adireddy, a member of the gang. They also presented another woman as the couple's daughter, even though the actual daughter lives abroad.
The Circle Inspector said the gang's method was to identify vacant plots that had lain unused for long periods and then create fake documents to enable their sale. Investigators expect more arrests in the case.
Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu commended the Penamaluru police for the arrests and urged the public to keep a regular watch on their properties.
