Nupur Sanon Defends Kriti Over GIVA Ad Outfit Debate
Nupur Sanon defends sister Kriti after GIVA ad sparks debate over festive outfit choices, drawing reactions from Kangana Ranaut.
A festive jewellery campaign featuring actor Kriti Sanon has triggered a social media debate about appropriate attire for traditional occasions, drawing both criticism and support from fellow celebrities.
The advertisement, released by GIVA for Rakshabandhan, shows Kriti in a bralette-style blouse paired with a cape and draped skirt. While some netizens questioned the styling choice for the festival, Kriti's sister, Nupur Sanon, has now publicly come to her defence.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Nupur expressed bewilderment at the scrutiny, writing, "Imagine being this bothered by what another woman chooses to wear. Respectfully EVOLVE!" She added a personal note, saying, "I'm the one she ties the rakhi to, and if I don't have a problem, why do you?"
Kriti had earlier responded to the criticism by emphasising the deeper meaning of the festival. "The essence of festivals is not in the clothes you wear, it is in the emotions and meaning you hold for the traditions," she said, adding that she and her sister tie rakhi to each other, believing they can protect one another just as well as a brother would.
The debate also drew a sharp reaction from actor Kangana Ranaut, who, without naming Kriti or the brand, questioned the outfit's suitability. "Why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments?" she wrote, describing the commercial as 'creepy'.
The contrasting responses have intensified the online conversation around fashion, individual choice, and the expectations placed on women during cultural celebrations.
