KTR accuses Telangana CM of orchestrating MLC remarks row to deflect attention

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of orchestrating a controversy over remarks made by BRS MLCs against the Assembly Speaker. He claimed the move was intended to divert public attention from what he described as the government's excesses against opposition women legislators.

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Mr. Rama Rao said BRS legislators had worn black t-shirts carrying slogans highlighting the Congress government's unfulfilled promises. He defended the protest, pointing out that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi had similarly worn black t-shirts inside Parliament premises. He maintained that no unparliamentary or objectionable language was used on the t-shirts.

Mr. Rama Rao alleged that police acted illegally and attacked BRS legislators during the protest, leaving several members with bruises and injuries. He specifically accused police of pulling women legislators by their hair. He demanded that the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, take responsibility for the conduct of police towards MLCs P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunitha Laxma Reddy.

According to Mr. Rama Rao, when the party leadership was informed of the incidents, BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao advised members to apologise with a large heart. Accordingly, MLC Tata Madhu clarified that he had not made any remarks against the Speaker and withdrew his statement if the Speaker felt offended, offering an apology.

The BRS has also boycotted the Business Advisory Council (BAC) meeting in protest against the alleged insult to its women legislators. Mr. Rama Rao further claimed that the Speaker was biased against the BRS, noting that the Speaker had openly stated in the House that he would not give the microphone to members who criticised the Chief Minister. He indicated that the party would move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker if necessary.
