KTR warns Congress against seeking KCR's resignation, cites 2006 backlash

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Congress government, warning that the ruling party would face a political backlash similar to the one it encountered in 2006.

Addressing a protest in Karimnagar marking the 1000 days of Congress rule, KTR questioned the rationale behind demands for former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's resignation. "Why should KCR resign? Should the person who brought Telangana resign?" he asked, asserting that it was Mr. Reddy who should step down instead.

Recalling the political developments of 2006, when Congress leaders had demanded KCR's resignation in Karimnagar, KTR said the BRS leader's subsequent resignation from the Lok Sabha and the political fallout had dealt a severe blow to the Congress. He cautioned the ruling party to remember that episode before renewing its demand for KCR's resignation.

KTR predicted that the Chief Minister and the Congress would face a similar political outcome if they continued to target the BRS chief. He also held the government accountable for what he described as its "420 promises," alleging widespread failures. "They should resign 420 times for the 420 promises," he said.

Reacting to the dismissal of Minister Konda Surekha from the State Cabinet, KTR remarked that removing one Minister would not resolve the Congress government's problems. "The days are not far when your government itself will be dismissed," he warned.

In a separate challenge, KTR attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, daring him to visit Telangana with his 'Chatron ki Ghoonj' programme to witness the ground reality. "Why is Rahul Gandhi shying away from Telangana? Is he fearing the students' backlash here?" he asked, urging Mr. Gandhi to address the aspirations of Telangana's youth after making sweeping promises before the Assembly elections.
