Bollywood Pays Tribute to Filmmaker Kuku Kohli at Mumbai Prayer Meet
A prayer meet for filmmaker Kuku Kohli, who died of a heart attack, saw Bollywood celebrities offer condolences in Mumbai.
Mumbai's film fraternity came together on Saturday to remember veteran filmmaker Kuku Kohli, who passed away at the age of 77 after suffering a heart attack at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on August 25. The prayer meet, held at the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala Complex, saw his wife, veteran actress Aruna Irani, visibly emotional as she arrived to pay her respects.
Among the notable attendees were Bollywood couple Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, along with veteran actresses Asha Parekh, Mumtaz, and Poonam Dhillon. Katrina shares a close bond with the Kohli family, particularly with Kuku's daughter, Karishma Kohli.
The gathering also drew a host of other film personalities, including Anupam Kher, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Boney Kapoor, Chunky Panday, and Rajpal Yadav. Filmmakers Anees Bazmee and Ashoke Pandit, lyricist Sameer Anjaan, and music composer Roopkumar Rathod were also present, as were actors Sunny Kaushal, Vihaan Samat, and Poonam Sinha.
Kuku Kohli made his directorial debut with the 1991 film 'Phool Aur Kaante', which starred Ajay Devgn and Madhoo, and is credited with launching Devgn's acting career. He went on to direct several successful films, including 'Suhaag' (1994), 'Haqeeqat', 'Zulmi', 'Anari No. 1', and 'Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa'. His last directorial venture was 'Woh Tera Naam Tha' in 2004.
He is survived by his wife Aruna Irani and two daughters, Pooja and Karishma, from his first marriage to Rita Kohli.
