Kummanam Rajasekharan flags gaps in Sabarimala pilgrimage season preparations
BJP national executive member Kummanam Rajasekharan has criticised the UDF government over pending 2018 Sabarimala protest cases and inadequate arrangements for the coming pilgrimage season.
Bharatiya Janata Party national executive member Kummanam Rajasekharan has criticised the United Democratic Front government for not withdrawing the cases registered against participants in the 2018 Sabarimala protests. Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, he described the agitation as a justified movement to protect the temple's customs and the interests of devotees.
Mr. Rajasekharan also turned his attention to the annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season, which is 55 days away, and said the State government and the Travancore Devaswom Board had not put essential arrangements in place.
He said the roads leading to Sabarimala were still full of potholes and that repair work, which should have begun by May, had not started. Drinking water distribution, health-care services and sanitation facilities were also being neglected, he added.
The remarks combine pending political demands from the 2018 protests with concerns over the logistical readiness of one of Kerala's largest annual pilgrimages.
