Kuwait Intercepts Missiles and Drones After US-Iran Clashes Intensify
Kuwait's air defences intercepted missile and drone attacks early Thursday, following a series of regional strikes linked to US-Iran escalation.
Air raid sirens echoed across Kuwait City in the early hours of Thursday as the country's air defences intercepted incoming missile and drone attacks. The overnight incident follows a series of strikes in the region that have sharply escalated tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense attributed the attack to what it described as "blatant Iranian aggression" in a statement posted on X. The ministry did not immediately report any casualties or damage from the intercepted projectiles.
The latest exchange comes amid a rapid escalation in fighting this week. On Sunday, the U.S. struck Iranian rocket launchers positioned on an island in the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that Tehran intended to use them to lay mines in the critical waterway. Iran responded by launching missiles at U.S. bases in Jordan, though all of those projectiles were reportedly intercepted.
In a separate development, Iranian state media reported that one of the U.S. strikes on Iranian territory on Wednesday hit a wedding party, killing at least four people and wounding dozens. The report could not be independently verified.
The overnight engagement in Kuwait marks a significant broadening of the conflict's geographic scope, bringing the fighting closer to the Gulf states that host U.S. military personnel.
