Russian Drone Kills 14-Year-Old in Kyiv; Eight Regions Hit Overnight

A Russian drone struck a 16-storey residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district on Friday morning, killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring at least seven people, according to the city's military administration and police.

The drone hit the building's 10th and 11th floors at around 8 a.m. Rescue teams carried the teenager's body from the site as emergency workers cleared debris from the damaged block.

Mykyta Sysuev, 23, a neighbour of the boy who died, described the scene inside the building after the strike.

"There were no doors, no windows. Everything was broken, with glass lying everywhere," he said, adding that he later checked the news and learned his teenage neighbour had been killed.

Sysuev said the tempo of attacks had risen and pointed to the difficulty of intercepting the faster drones now being used.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said eight regions of the country came under attack overnight.

Russian authorities, meanwhile, said Ukrainian long-range strikes killed one person and wounded 21 others.

Nadia Alekseeva, an 88-year-old pensioner in Kyiv, said she saw no end to the war and called on the United States to press Russia more forcefully to withdraw from Ukrainian territory.

"I do not see the end of the war," she said, arguing that Washington could impose conditions to halt weapons deliveries to the Russian army. "But that is impossible to predict at this point."
