The death toll from a Russian strike on an ammunition depot in Ukraine's Kyiv region has risen to 38, with rescue teams still searching for four missing people, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed on Sunday.
The attack, which occurred late Friday, targeted a military facility storing artillery shells, mines, drones, and other ammunition. It marks the deadliest Russian strike in the Kyiv area this year, coming amid an intensified campaign of attacks on the Ukrainian capital that has continued through the weekend.
In a Telegram update, Zelenskiy said first responders had extinguished most of the fires caused by the blast. However, he noted that the scale of contamination in the affected area remains significant, and cleanup operations would continue for as long as necessary.
The president also released video footage showing firefighting teams battling blazes and clearing debris from destroyed buildings.
Separately, Zelenskiy detailed the scale of Russia's recent offensive, stating that over the past week Moscow launched nearly 2,000 strike drones, more than 1,600 aerial bombs, and 31 missiles, including North Korean ballistic missiles.
"We are seeking just responses to every Russian strike and crime. They will certainly come," he said.
