Kyiv Region Warehouse Strike Kills 27, Ukraine Says

At least 27 people were killed when a Russian drone strike on a warehouse in the Kyiv region sparked a massive detonation late on Friday, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack, which occurred in the Bucha district, also left 42 people injured and prompted the evacuation of more than 380 residents from the surrounding area.

Kyiv regional governor Tymur Tkachenko reported the casualties on the Telegram messaging app, warning that the death toll could still rise as rescue and recovery efforts continue. He did not specify what was stored at the warehouse that was hit.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the strike caused significant damage to nearby infrastructure, including residential buildings and a care facility for the elderly. He called for those responsible for the incident to be held accountable, noting that criminal cases have been opened on charges of official negligence.

"There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas," Zelenskiy wrote on X. "Appropriate conclusions will certainly be drawn."

The attack came after two days of frequent drone waves targeting the capital and its surrounding region, which had already damaged warehouses and homes and disrupted daily life.
