Wreckage of LA news helicopter removed as crash probe begins
Charred wreckage of a Los Angeles news helicopter was removed from the crash site Thursday as NTSB officials worked the scene.
Charred wreckage from a news helicopter crash in Los Angeles was being cleared from the site on Thursday, as investigators worked to determine what brought the aircraft down.
Aerial footage showed the burnt remains of the helicopter and the impact it left on storage containers it struck as it fell. Several people, including officials from the National Transportation Safety Board, were visible at the scene overseeing the removal.
The helicopter, used by NBC and Telemundo, crashed and burst into flames on Tuesday, killing three people. Among the dead was reporter Eliana Moreno. The crew had been covering the collision of an SUV and a city bus at the time of the crash, according to officials and the news outlet.
The fire that engulfed the helicopter after impact was quickly extinguished, but at least four cars and two storage containers on the ground burned, officials said.
No immediate details have emerged on what may have caused the crash. However, in the final video the crew broadcast live before the incident, an alarm can be heard sounding inside the cockpit as the helicopter loses altitude.
