Labourer dies in fall from temple tower during lighting work in Chikkaballapur

A 22-year-old labourer died after slipping from the tower of Venkataramana Swamy Temple in Gudibande while installing lights for Shravana Saturday festivities.

A 22-year-old labourer died on Saturday after accidentally slipping and falling from the tower of a historic temple in Gudibande town, Chikkaballapur district. The victim was engaged in installing electric lights ahead of the last Saturday of the Shravana month, a day of special religious significance.

The deceased has been identified as Rahmath, a resident of Bettada Kelagina Pete in Gudibande. He had been entrusted with the electrical decoration work by the temple trust at the Venkataramana Swamy Temple on Sante Beedi.

According to preliminary information, Rahmath had completed the lighting arrangement around the temple premises and had climbed the temple tower to fix the remaining lights. While carrying out the final phase of the task, he reportedly lost his footing and fell from the tower.

Locals who witnessed the incident rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Rahmath, who worked as a daily-wage labourer, was the primary breadwinner of his family. He is survived by his wife and two sons. The couple had been married for about four years.

The Gudibande police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
