Ladakh LG Saxena to Handle J&K Duties During Sinha's US Visit
President Murmu gives Ladakh LG Saxena additional charge of J&K LG while Manoj Sinha is on official visit to US. Saxena will also administer oath to new HC CJ.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena will temporarily take on the responsibilities of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in addition to his current role, during the absence of J&K LG Manoj Sinha. The appointment was made by President Droupadi Murmu through a communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Sinha, who assumed office as J&K LG on August 7, 2020, is currently in the United States on an official visit. During this period, Saxena will discharge the functions of the J&K LG while continuing his duties in Ladakh.
Saxena is also scheduled to administer the oath of office to Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The ceremony will take place at 11 am on September 9 at the Convention Centre in Srinagar.
Justice Bhati, currently a judge of the Rajasthan High Court, was appointed by President Murmu on September 5. His appointment takes effect from the date he assumes charge, succeeding Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who had been serving as Acting Chief Justice since June 2. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Bhati for the post on August 31. He was elevated to the Rajasthan High Court on November 16, 2016.
