Woman in viral Ladakh checkpost video apologises to Army, cites Gen-Z protests
A woman filmed arguing with Army personnel at a Ladakh checkpost has apologised, saying her judgment was clouded and that she respects the forces.
The woman at the centre of a viral video showing her confronting Army personnel at a checkpost in Ladakh has issued a public apology. In an interview, she said her remarks were made in a moment of clouded judgment and that she holds the Indian Army in the highest regard.
The incident occurred near the Minimarg checkpost in the Dras area, where travel on the Minimarg-Zoji La-Sonamarg road had been temporarily restricted. The closure was linked to security arrangements around Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, according to Ladakh Police. The woman, who was travelling from Ladakh to Delhi, said she and her companions waited for three to four hours and were told by a soldier that the wait would extend by another hour.
In the video, she is heard saying, "We are Gen Z. We will not tolerate this nonsense!" The clip was widely shared online. The woman explained that the Gen-Z protests seen a month earlier had left a deep impression on her, which influenced her reaction. She added that she has been in extreme distress since the video went viral.
Actor Ranvir Shorey has also weighed in, urging the public and the Army to accept her apology. In a post on X, he described her apology as earnest and sincere, and asked people to move on. He also criticised the use of the phrase "We are Gen-Z" to justify offensive behaviour.
