Left-leaning organisations in Kerala have voiced opposition to the proposed review of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) by the state's higher education council. They have urged the council to retain the existing academic framework of the programme, cautioning against alterations that could clash with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles, university autonomy, and the statutory provisions governing FYUGP.
The organisations argue that any changes to the programme's structure should not undermine the foundational objectives of OBE, which emphasises measurable learning outcomes. They also stressed the importance of respecting the autonomy of universities in implementing the programme, as well as adhering to the legal and regulatory framework that currently defines FYUGP.
The appeal comes amid ongoing deliberations by the council on potential revisions to the programme. The left groups have called for a cautious approach, ensuring that any modifications are made within the existing framework and do not disrupt the academic continuity or the integrity of the undergraduate education system in the state.
