Leopard Attacks Pet Dog in Rudraprayag, Fierce Resistance Caught on Camera

A tense encounter unfolded late Tuesday night in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, when a leopard entered a residential courtyard near the Vikas Bhawan office and attacked a pet dog that was sleeping.
Video footage of the incident shows the two animals locked in a fierce struggle just steps from the home's doorway. Despite the leopard's size advantage, the dog resisted aggressively, snapping and refusing to yield ground.
The big cat eventually retreated, overwhelmed by the pet's relentless defence. The dog chased the leopard as it fled the premises. A person is then seen emerging from the house in the footage.
The pet survived the attack, but the incident has deeply unsettled the local community. Residents say leopard sightings near human settlements have become more frequent in recent weeks, creating a persistent risk for families and domestic animals.
In response to Tuesday's attack, locals have urged the Forest Department to increase nighttime patrols and monitor the leopard's movements to prevent further encounters.
