Libya targets 4 bcfd gas output within five years, minister says
Libya aims to lift gas production to 4 billion standard cubic feet per day over the next three to five years, its oil and gas minister said at a Bangkok energy forum.
Libya intends to raise its natural gas output to 4 billion standard cubic feet per day within the next three to five years, the country's oil and gas minister said at an energy forum in Bangkok on Tuesday.
Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, a minister in Libya's Government of National Unity, said the country has identified substantial opportunities to expand production from resources already discovered.
"We have come to identify huge opportunities for us to increase output to at least 4 billion per day over the next three to five years, and that's just for the discovered resources either on the free gas or the associated gas," Abdulsadek told the forum.
The plan covers both free gas and associated gas — the latter produced alongside crude oil — from fields that have already been found, according to the minister's remarks.
Libya holds Africa's largest proven oil reserves and significant gas reserves, but its production has been constrained by years of instability. The target outlined in Bangkok points to an effort to expand the role of gas in the country's energy output.
