Drone Attack on Tripoli Fuel Depot Fails to Cause Damage, NOC Says
A drone attack targeted a fuel depot in Tripoli but caused no damage. Libya's NOC is taking precautionary measures.
Libya's state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported that a remote-controlled drone attempted to strike a fuel depot in the capital, Tripoli, on Thursday. The attack did not result in any damage, according to an official statement.
In response, technical teams have begun drawing fuel from the storage tanks to lower the fuel level as a precautionary measure. No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, and authorities have not indicated who they suspect.
Separately, Brega Petroleum Marketing Company, which manages Libya's fuel supplies, confirmed that no damages or casualties were recorded and that the incident has not affected supply operations.
The attempted strike comes amid a history of attacks on Libyan oil infrastructure, which has faced repeated disruptions for political and technical reasons since the 2011 uprising that ended Muammar Gaddafi's rule. Earlier this month, explosive-laden drones struck fuel storage tanks at the nearby Zawiya oil complex, completely burning one tank.
The NOC warned that such attempts to target oil facilities represent a direct threat to the country's fuel supply system.
