Liontown Approves A$389 Million Kathleen Valley Expansion, Raises FY27 Capex Guidance

Liontown Resources has approved a A$389 million expansion of its Kathleen Valley lithium mine, raising FY27 capex guidance by roughly 35%.

Liontown Resources has approved a A$389 million (US$271.68 million) expansion of its flagship Kathleen Valley lithium mine in Western Australia, a decision that has pushed the Perth-based miner to raise its capital expenditure guidance for fiscal 2027 by about 35%.

The company now expects total capital expenditure of A$435 million to A$495 million in fiscal 2027, up from its earlier forecast of A$320 million to A$370 million. The revised range reflects the expansion capital sanctioned under the project's final investment decision.

Included in the higher forecast is A$175 million to A$195 million of Kathleen Valley expansion capital scheduled for fiscal 2027.

Liontown said the expansion is expected to lift average spodumene concentrate production to about 780,000 dry metric tons a year from fiscal 2030. For fiscal 2027, however, the company kept its spodumene concentrate production guidance unchanged at 390,000 to 440,000 dry metric tons.

The Kathleen Valley decision builds on Liontown's recent efforts to broaden its lithium footprint, which included the acquisition of Argentina's Centenario project from Next Lithium in early September.
