Foreign liquor, live bullets recovered from rented house in Kozhikode
Police and Excise recover 60 liquor bottles and 70+ live rounds from a locked rented house in Kozhikode; one person detained.
A joint investigation by the Kerala Police and the Excise Department is underway following the recovery of a significant cache of foreign liquor and live ammunition from a rented premises in Kozhikode district.
The seizure took place at a house in Kammalankunnu, near Thamarassery, during a raid conducted on the night of September 2, 2026. Acting on a specific tip-off regarding the suspected storage of contraband, the local police team found the residence locked upon arrival. A subsequent hour-long search of the rooms led to the recovery of 60 bottles of foreign liquor and more than 70 live rounds of bullets.
According to officials, the ammunition is believed to be of a type typically used for licensed shooting and hunting activities. No firearms were discovered at the location. A man from Nellipoyil, who had recently rented the house, has been taken into custody for questioning. Authorities noted that his statements have not yet clarified the source of either the liquor or the bullets.
A senior police officer indicated that the stock of liquor appeared to be intended for illegal sale. Investigators are also examining whether the bullets were procured and stored for hunting purposes. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Kerala Abkari Act and the Arms Act as the probe continues.
