Prime Video's 'The Love Hypothesis' Trailer Teases a Fake Romance With Real Stakes

Prime Video has released the official trailer for 'The Love Hypothesis,' a romantic drama adapted from Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel. The film stars Lili Reinhart as Olive, a PhD candidate focused on her academic career, and Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen, a professor known for his intimidating and strict demeanor.

The story begins when Olive impulsively kisses Adam to convince her best friend Anh that she has moved on from her crush, Jeremy. That spontaneous moment evolves into a mutually beneficial fake dating arrangement. In the trailer, Adam reveals his motivation: a serious girlfriend might convince Stanford officials to reconsider his grant, which is at risk due to concerns he may leave.

As the pair navigates their pretend relationship, the lines between performance and genuine feeling begin to blur. Their pairing surprises their peers, given Adam's reputation as distant and emotionless. The film explores how two people with very different public personas find common ground.

Directed by Claire Scanlon, the film features a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild and is produced by Elizabeth Cantillon. The cast also includes Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan.

Speaking at Obsessed Fest in June, Reinhart described the film as a story about choosing love over hate, calling it "beautiful" and "timeless." Bateman noted that the original book remained "always front and center" during filming to preserve the essence of the story.

'The Love Hypothesis' premieres globally on Prime Video on September 23.
