Aadhaar biometric authentication to be mandatory for LPG subsidy from October 1
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication becomes mandatory for domestic LPG customers from October 1, 2026, with about 89.9% of 27.43 crore consumers already verified.
Domestic cooking gas consumers will need to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to continue booking subsidised LPG refills, with the requirement set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
According to official figures, around 89.9% of the country's 27.43 crore domestic LPG consumers have already completed the authentication process. The remaining consumers, who have not yet done so, will be excluded from the subsidy and will need to register through digital channels to regain eligibility.
The move is aimed at tightening the delivery of subsidised cylinders and ensuring that benefits reach verified beneficiaries. Consumers who miss the deadline will not be able to book subsidised refills until they complete the authentication and re-register digitally.
With the majority of users already verified, the transition is expected to affect a relatively small share of households. However, those yet to complete the process are being urged to do so before the cut-off date to avoid any disruption in their subsidised LPG supply.
